Step 1
Choose high-quality sprats from a trusted brand. It’s convenient to use pre-sliced white bread (baguette or loaf).
Step 2
You can use the bread as is, or toast it lightly first. I prefer toasted—it gives a delicious crunchy crust. I toast the bread with a small amount of vegetable oil, but you can also dry-toast it in a pan without oil.

Toasted bread will turn slightly golden. Transfer to a plate and let it cool.
Step 4
Wash the fresh cucumbers and slice them thinly.

Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the cooled bread slices.

Place the sliced cucumbers on top of the mayonnaise. You can use pickled cucumbers instead of fresh if preferred.

Top each slice with 1–2 sprats.
