Step 1
I use parboiled long-grain rice – it doesn't get mushy or sticky when cooked. But you can use any rice you like. Adjust cooking time according to the package instructions.
Step 2
Peel the onion and rinse it in cold water. Then finely chop it. Heat a skillet and add a little vegetable oil. Sauté the chopped onion for about a minute until it starts to turn golden.

Step 3
While the onion is cooking, rinse the rice thoroughly, changing the water a few times. Then drain all the water.
Step 4
Add the rinsed rice to the skillet with the sautéed onion. Pour in hot water and stir. Bring to a boil.
Step 5
Add salt, dry spices, and lemon juice to taste. I add a bit of turmeric for a beautiful yellow color. Stir everything, cover with a lid, and simmer on low heat for about 10–13 minutes.

Step 6
During this time, the rice will absorb all the water, grow in size, and become soft.
Step 7
Spread sour cream over the surface of the rice (any fat content is fine). Cover again and let it steam for another 1–2 minutes so the rice soaks up the sour cream.
Step 8
Serve the finished rice on plates, sprinkle with chopped herbs. A perfect side dish for any meat dish is ready! Enjoy!
