Pasta with ground meat and bell pepper

Simple, quick, and made from everyday ingredients – great for lunch or dinner! Pasta with ground meat and bell pepper is something between sailor’s pasta and Bolognese. The bell pepper adds a zesty note and a pleasant aroma to the tomato-meat sauce.

Step 1
You can use any pasta shape — just choose good quality pasta, ideally made from durum wheat. It cooks better and has more nutritional value. Use any ground meat; I used beef. It can be store-bought or homemade.
Step 2
Peel and finely dice the onion.

Step 3
Wash the bell pepper, cut it open, remove the seeds, and slice the flesh into medium strips.
Step 4
Heat a deep skillet over medium heat. Add vegetable oil and diced onion. Sauté over low heat for about 5 minutes until translucent, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
Add the ground meat to the onion. At the same time, place a large pot of cold water on the stove for boiling pasta. Use plenty of water — about 4 cups (1 liter) per 3.5 oz (100 g) of pasta. Sauté the meat, breaking up large clumps, until the color changes, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add other spices if desired.

Step 6
Add the bell pepper to the meat. Stir and cook for a few more minutes. Salt the boiling water and add the pasta. Stir it to prevent sticking. Cook pasta according to package directions — aim for al dente.
Step 7
Add tomato paste to the meat (or use tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes — you'll need a bit more of the latter). Stir, reduce heat, cover with a lid, and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. If it starts to stick, add a splash of hot water.
Step 8
Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the skillet with the meat. Stir everything together and heat briefly over low heat under a lid.

Step 9
Serve the pasta with ground meat and bell pepper hot. Enjoy your meal!
