Oatmeal with Tomatoes and Poached Egg

Poached eggs are eggs cooked in hot water without the shell.

How to make poached eggs?

Classic method: Crack the egg into a small bowl. Boil water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar, then reduce heat to low. Create a whirlpool with a spoon and gently pour in the egg. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the whites are set but the yolk remains runny.

Microwave method: Crack the egg into a bowl of water, cover with a small plate, and microwave on medium power for 1 minute.

Bag method: Crack the egg into a plastic bag, lower it into boiling water, and cook for 4 minutes. Grease the bag with oil first.

Ladle method: Grease a ladle with oil, crack in the egg, and dip the ladle into boiling water without letting water enter. Cook for 3–4 minutes.

Step 1
Prepare all ingredients according to the list.

Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and dice them into small cubes.

Peel the garlic and cut it lengthwise into several pieces. Sauté the garlic in preheated oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring. Make sure the oil doesn’t overheat, or the garlic will burn.

Sauté the tomatoes in the garlic-infused oil until they soften. Cook over low heat.

Add the oats and water to the tomatoes and stir. Add salt, cover with a lid, and cook for 10–15 minutes. The time depends on the type of oats and the desired consistency. Add more water if you prefer a thinner oatmeal.

While the oatmeal is cooking, prepare a poached egg. You can use any of the methods described earlier. This recipe uses plastic wrap: cut a piece of wrap (6x6 in), grease it with oil, and place it into a small bowl. Pour the egg into the center.

Gather the ends of the wrap, tie a knot or secure with string. Bring a pot of water to a boil, then reduce to medium and lower in the wrapped egg. Boil for 2.5–4 minutes depending on egg size and preferred doneness.

Add cream cheese to the oatmeal, stir, and cook for another 5 minutes.
