Step 1
Peel the potatoes in advance and rinse them under running water. Choose sweet and tart apples. Use sour cream of any fat content. Select good-quality cheese that melts well and doesn't contain vegetable fat substitutes.
Step 2
Slice the peeled potatoes into thin rounds and place them in a deep bowl.

Step 3
Drizzle with vegetable oil. Add salt and spices to taste. Mix everything well. It's easier to mix by hand to separate the potato slices so they are evenly coated with oil. Thanks to the oil film, the potatoes won’t dry out in the oven.
Step 4
Slice the apples into thin pieces as well and add them to the bowl with the potatoes.
Step 5
Add sour cream and mix everything again to distribute it evenly among the potatoes and apples.

Step 6
Any oven-safe baking dish will work; ceramic dishes are great. Place the prepared potatoes and apples in the dish and spread them out evenly. Put the dish into a preheated oven at 180°C (about 350°F) and bake for about 35–40 minutes. This time is approximate – monitor your oven. The potatoes should become soft. If they brown too quickly but remain undercooked, cover the dish with foil.
Step 7
Near the end of baking, grate the cheese.
Step 8
Sprinkle the baked potatoes and apples with grated cheese and return to the oven for another 10–15 minutes until the cheese melts completely.

Step 9
Remove the dish from the oven, sprinkle with fresh herbs, and serve hot. Enjoy!
